Torino 0 Juventus 1: Champions win derby but lose Higuain

Juventus lost Gonzalo Higuain to injury as they claimed a 1-0 derby win over Torino on Sunday to move top of Serie A, temporarily at least.

Alex Sandro scored the only goal of the game in the first half at the Olimpico Grande Torino to make it just one defeat in 24 league meetings for Juve with their city rivals.

However, the loss of Higuain after quarter of an hour will be a cause of concern for Massimiliano Allegri, even though Paulo Dybala was able to make his return from a hamstring injury.

Torino, who had won three and drawn one of their previous four home matches without conceding a goal, were the better of the two teams in the opening exchanges before Higuain went off after failing to run off a knock.

Juve, who started with Wojciech Szczesny in go…

Shaw raring to go after injury woe

Luke Shaw is focusing on enjoying the new season with Manchester United after missing the majority of 2015-16 with a serious injury.

The left-back, who joined United from Southampton two years ago, suffered a broken leg in a Champions League clash against PSV in mid-September and was ruled out for the remainder of the campaign.

But, after completing his recovery, the 21-year-old is looking forward to a fresh campaign as United led by Jose Mourinho for the first time take on Wigan Athletic in a friendly on Saturday.

It feels really good,  Shaw told MUTV. I think in the last couple of weeks we ve been training really hard and everyone s looking forward to the game, and of course I am as well.

It was a really tough last eight or nine months until I got …

Toulalan hints at Malaga exit

Malaga midfielder Jeremy Toulalan could be leaving the club in the summer transfer window, according to his representative.

The Frenchman has been heavily linked with a summer exit, seeing that Atletico Madrid and few other European giants are believed to be keen.

He has so far denied such a possibility, but his official representative has hinted that a summer exit is a realistic option.

Atletico Madrid is still putting a lot of pressure on for Jeremy. But we have other concrete options as well, agent Mickael Manuello explained to L Equipe.

Jeremy Toulalan joined Malaga in an €11 million deal from Lyon in the summer of 2011 and quickly developed into a key player at La Rosaleda.

He made a total of 42 La Liga appearances for los Boquerones and …

Garcia pledges future to Lille

Lille manager Rudi Garcia has insisted that he is to remain at the club despite increased speculation regarding his future.

Reports suggested the 2011 Ligue 1 champions had met with Real Sociedad boss Philippe Montainer and outgoing Montpellier head coach Rene Girard as part of contingency plans in case Garcia opted not to see out his contract, which expires in June 2014.
However, the 49-year-old was quick to stress that he will honour his agreement and has no desire to leave the Grand Stade Metropole.
I ve talked about this often, but you haven t taken heed. I can tell you in several languages if you like. We know Rudi Garcia will be at Lille next season. My president says the same thing as I do, Garcia said.
It s not true that they have met Girard and Montanier, and it s ann…

Wolves 1-2 Tottenham: Late Vertonghen header sees Mourinho´s men march on

Jan Vertonghen s late header earned Tottenham a 2-1 win at Wolves that moves Jose Mourinho s side within three points of the Premier League s top four.

Spurs seemed set to be held to a 1-1 draw at a wet Molineux after an early Lucas Moura strike was cancelled out by Adama Traore s drive midway through the second half.

But in the first minute of added time, Vertonghen stooped to direct Christian Eriksen s right-wing corner past Rui Patricio to seal a fourth win in five league games for Mourinho.

Wolves, for whom Diogo Jota lashed wide at the death, slip below Tottenham in the Premier League table after seeing their 11-game unbeaten run in the league come to an unfortunate end.

What a finish and what a win!

COME ON YOU SPURS!

Nubel meant no harm with horror challenge on Gacinovic, insists Schalke boss Wagner

David Wagner insists Alexander Nubel did not intend to do harm to Mijat Gacinovic with his horror challenge in Schalke s 1-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt.

The Schalke goalkeeper was shown a 66th-minute red card for a wild lunge with his foot that caught his opponent high on the chest.

Head coach Wagner accepted referee Felix Zwayer had little option other than to give Nubel his marching orders but defended his captain.

Alexander Nubel wasn t trying to catch Mijat Gacinovic when he was sent off, but just arrived too late, Wagner said in quotes reported by Schalke s official website.

It obviously looks really bad. The referee s decision was definitely correct. Markus Schubert was great after coming on, as was Juan Miranda.

Gacinovic later post…

Porto quality no surprise to Guardiola

Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola was unsurprised by Porto s early pressure in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final, conceding the match did not go well for his team.

A brace from Ricardo Quaresma in the opening 10 minutes set up Porto s surprise 3-1 victory on Wednesday.

Thiago Alcantara pulled a goal back for the 2013 European champions, before Jackson Martinez s second-half effort put the Primeira Liga giants in control of the tie.

We were not surprised by Porto s start to the game. I knew we were going to face a very good team, we knew they had a good attack, Guardiola said.

The quality of this game was at the highest level, we are lucky to be in this phase of the competition. Jackson Martínez is a top player. Casemiro an…

Bayern´s best display against Dortmund – Guardiola

Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola believes his team s performance against Borussia Dortmund was their best against their rivals since his arrival.

Dortmund advanced to the DFB Pokal final on Tuesday after the clash finished 1-1 through 120 minutes, before Bayern missed four penalties to go down 2-0 in the shoot-out.

Guardiola, whose team had Arjen Robben, Robert Lewandowski and Thiago Alcantara suffer injuries, felt it was one of their better displays against Dortmund since he took over ahead of the 2013-14 season.

I am prouder than ever of my team, he said.

We have done everything, so I am very satisfied. We played well it was our best game against BVB [Dortmund] in my period here in Germany.

In a penalty shoot-out we were a bit tired. I congr…

Parish: Prudent Palace will spend practically

Crystal Palace co-chairman Steve Parish has insisted the newly promoted side will not be spending crazy money on players in the off-season.

QPR – who were relegated from the Premier League last season – spent heavily in both pre-season and in the January transfer window for little reward.
Their influx of overpriced veterans and big names failed to show the steel required to keep the Loftus Road outfit in the top flight as many of the players who helped QPR to the Premier League – and who then played a big role in keeping them there in the 2011-12 season – were cast aside.
While new signings at Selhurt Park are inevitable, and necessary, Parish revealed that the club will be spending sensibly.
We had a good structure in the league we were in (last season), said Parish, w…

Scholes sad to see Robinson leave Stoke

Stoke City chief executive Tony Scholes has expressed his disappointment at the departure of director of youth development Terry Robinson.

The former Sheffield United director has been at the Britannia Stadium since 2011 and helped the club gain Category One status in the Premier League s Elite Player Performance Plan.
Losing Robinson comes a month after it was confirmed that Under-21 coach Dave Kevan had also left the club s academy set-up as part of the coaching changes following the end of the Tony Pulis era.
Robinson is now poised to join a Championship club.
Terry has done a great job in terms of restructuring the academy and putting in place a set-up which was successful in securing Category One status, therefore ensuring we are among the elite academies in the country, …
